Laser Safety Warnings
![]() |
The iScanDx Reader is a Class 1 laser instrument that houses two Class 3B lasers and, under the normal operating procedures specified in this document, does not permit operator exposure to laser light. The lasers, with power up to 110 mW, are accessible in the interior of the instrument. All laser radiation accessible to the operator is in accordance with IEC 60825-1 accessible limits for Class 1 laser products. Do not attempt to gain access to the interior of the instrument through any opening. Exposure to laser light can cause injury. For example, viewing the laser light directly can cause blindness. The iScanDx Instrument is a Class 1 laser product. |
Barcode Scanner Laser Precautions
The iScanDx Reader also houses a Class 2 laser barcode reader. Do not stare into the visible-light beam of the barcode scanner.
Laser Safety Precautions
Laser power up to 110 mW can be accessed from the interior of the instrument. The instrument contains both a red laser and a green laser. The output of the red laser is specified at a maximum 110 mW at 660 nm. The output of the green laser is specified at a maximum 50 mW at 532 nm in a diverging beam.
CAUTION
Making adjustments to the instrument or performing procedures other than the procedures specified in this document can result in hazardous laser light exposure.
Illumina recommends that you observe the following precautions:
• | Do not remove the main cover of the instrument. There are no user-serviceable components inside, and you can be exposed to laser light. |
• | Do not defeat the safety interlocks of the sample door. During a scan, this safety interlocks protect you from exposure to the laser light by interrupting the scan and blocking the light source. |
• | Do not continue to use the instrument if the main cover or sample door becomes damaged and the instrument is no longer light tight. Contact Illumina immediately to arrange for repair. |
