Mounting Network Drives

Do not share any drives or folders from the instrument. The instrument is not intended to be a server or long-term storage location.

Server Message Block (SMB), Common Internet File System (CIFS), and Network File System (NFS) are the only tested and supported methods for persistent mounting of a network drive on the instrument.

Illumina recommends the use of a dedicated appliance on site and not mounting an external appliance (cloud/co-location). Illumina does not recommend or support the use of:

Cloud endpoints for run output locations
Distributed file systems (DFS) with a thin root server
Storage systems that use a file metadata service with delayed read or write actions

If run files are moved or scanned while the run or analysis is active, it can cause corruption or unexpected issues. Likewise, do not touch or manipulate file handles during this time.

Fully qualified UNC paths are available to the instrument for mounting network storage. Avoid using hidden file paths.
