Control Computer Security
Each Illumina sequencing system is equipped with a control computer that operates the system. As with any computer connected to a network or the internet, following best practices limits the risk of malicious software, or malware, damaging the control computer.
This section provides guidelines for managing the security of the control computer on your instrument or system. Use the following recommendations to manage security configurations for your system and ensure a more secure operating environment:
•
Software restriction policies—Increase the reliability, integrity, and manageability of computers in a domain. By restricting configurations, only identified applications can run. |
•
Antivirus software—Protect the computer and the data streaming through it. |
•
Control computer firewall—Configure endpoints so that the firewall blocks all inbound connections but still allows outbound connections based on the region and instrument. |
•
Operating system settings—Adjust settings within operating system, such as Remote Desktop Protocol. Perform Illumina tested updates when available. |
•
User account settings—Identify user permissions and behavior and change passwords based on requirements for Windows or Linux operating systems. |
For security reasons, Illumina only supports software provided at installation.
Google Chrome, Java, Box, and other third-party software, including scripts, are untested and can interfere with performance and security. Use of third-party software or scripts might result in corrupt or missing sequencing data.
Java is identified as a security issue. Uninstall Java and any other programs that cause performance or security issues.
